1955 Thunderbird  For Sale

The public got its first glimpse of the new Thunderbird in February 1954 at the Detroit Auto Show.        This mock-up was close to what would eventually end up in production. It drew rave reviews from both  the Press and the public. On September 9, 1954 the first production Thunderbird rolled off the assembly line in Dearborn.

The 1955 were an instant success being priced around $3500 for a nicely equipped model. Unlike the Corvette, it was powered by a V-8 with either a manual or automatic transmission, had an adjustable steering wheel, roll-up windows, tach, clock, 150 mph speedometer and a ball-joint front suspension. It was marketed as a "personal luxury" car and not a sports car. The Thunderbird never was then or ever meant to be a sports car.

This particular 1955 Ford Thunderbird has just received a complete frame off, rotisserie restoration completed only a few months ago. The exterior color of Raven black looks fantastic. The new interior is black and white and the dash, dash pad, carpet and gauges are all in exceptional show quality condition. All the gauges are the original type except the radio that has been replaced with an updated cassette aftermarket radio.

The original 292ci V-8 was completely rebuilt and has less than 20 miles on it. It runs as nice and smooth as it did the day it was driven off the assembly line, if not better. Also rebuilt was the automatic Ford-O-Matic transmission. It shifts nice and smooth at all speeds, up and down. The entire electrical system was converted to a 12-volt system. The vehicle is riding on a set of new period correct 15’ Firestone wide white wall tires with 60-spoke wire wheels, Thunderbird spinners and caps. This Thunderbird has two tops, both tops are black and the soft top is a Hartz cloth top. This is a power seat and power steering car that is going to keep going up in value over the years. The owner has all receipts and documents relating to the restoration come with the car. Please feel free to call at any time if you have any questions. We are welcoming any inspection prior to the auction ending. Good Luck.
